ACTION
This is your CALL to action!
Reaching out to your elected official makes some people nervous, but it's more effective than email or online petitions. Don't be scared—the actual official usually won't answer the phone. Typically, a staff member will take your message and pass it along or you will get voicemail. It's easy and we'll show you how to do it. You can call ANY elected official, so don't limit it to your state.
FIND. You have elected officials at the Federal, State, and Local levels. Find them here by entering your address or find contact info for every US Senator here. Some officials will have multiple offices; call any of them. And you don't have to limit your calls to YOUR elected officials, you can call any elected official, especially if there's one who has been influencing the issue you care about.

PLAN. Write out what you want to say, word-for-word. It should be brief; it is best to stick to one topic. You can talk about a specific bill or share a personal story that shows how the rubber is meeting the road at your end. This is also a good time to ask questions or thank them for supporting an issue. It can also be as simple as "My name is ____ and I am a voter from ___. I want Senator ____ to continue supporting ___. Thank you."
CALL. It's ok to be nervous! When you call, it's likely a staff member will answer, not the actual elected official. Sometimes you will get an answering machine or a directive to email or call back later. Still nervous about calling? Make it fun by doing it with a friend on speakerphone!
REPEAT. Keep calling weekly and don't worry about being a bother. You are their boss! if you had an employee that needed to improve, you would continue to correct them, right? And if you had a great employee, you would continue to praise them. The more you call, the easier it gets.
